Dudes...dudes....dudes...I was there! BELIEVE ME when I tell you, NOBODY was in EVH's league and NOBODY was in Randy Rhoads league...NOOOO BODY! DeMartini would have laughed if anybody told him he was on a par with RR....Jake E knew he was on sacred ground when he got the Ozzy gig....etc...these guitar players went on to develop into better players AFTER the guy died...sure! even I'm a better player than Randy NOW!....but that isn't fair to the context of the day... What about a studio cat named Larry Carlton or a guy from Nashville named Jerry Reed or how bout that dude from Austin Texas named Eric Johnson. They were around also during that time. Larry Carlton was (and is in my book...) a dweeb with polyester pants and Jerry Reed was making 'smokey and the Bandit' movies..Eric Johnson was not on the map at that time (he's a blues guy...)... LOOK, do I have to break it down for ya..(condescending...hehehe) Ozzy came to LA he auditioned hundreds of guys (Heck (or Hell) I was even invited to audition for him...(another story for another time..)) Jake might have even been in that group of original auditions....I don't know...Randy had the 'IT' factor....BIG TIME...it's easy for us to sit here with our arm chair egos and judge these guys....Jake E Lee wasn't near as good a player (then) until he got the Ozzy gig...think about it...when you get a big gig like that it really makes you hunker down and practice because you know that now your are in the BIG TIME....you bring your A game...I happen to agree with shreder and craig...I like Jake E Lee alot....but he was riding on the shoulders of a better player (as we all are..)

He was smoking at the same time EVH and RR were playing and he had better tone even back then. ;D

Which is why (if you re-read the post) I put "a guy from AUSTIN named Eric Johnson" FYI I'm 36 and I'm not a twerp who thinks he's all that. I agree with you on certain aspects of your rant. The young guns 9 times out of 10 have no clue what they're talking about. That shouldn't lead you to assume that we're all 20 yr old twerps that know nothing of what we speak. These are just people's opinions man. You're not going to change those. Why are you getting so upset over someone's opinion on RR and Jake E. Lee. Relax!
