I've heard that album as well..and I like his acoustic sound and voice..but his guitar playing is pure vanilla.. yeah, he's solid..but he never did thing one to show me that he can hang with some of the other guys that have been mentioned... I dunno..I think Ego and Shredder get lumped in together too much..yngwie? yes...ego shredder...a guy like, john norum? nope..he uses speed when it fits, not all the time...his phrasing is phenominal.... I also think it goes the other way around too...rather than ego shredder..people who do nothing but 'safe' stuff get labeled as 'melodic'...my buddy always used to us that as an out..'oh, I can't do all this technical stuff, but I'm melodic'...melody IS a technique...to me, that'as just a cop out for peopel who usually can't play =) I personally dont think melodic means ya cant play, well I have heard that story too, I am melodic,, yea.. ok you play rhythm, it is a statement for non pro's and non amatuers. agreed.. but I also think melodic means to make your shreddin mean something other that ripping a bunch of notes for filler. via and a lot of others can rip all day but they are melodic doing so. its part of the whole scheme. I just got BLS DVD from Detriot. same stuff over and over. I was bored by the 3rd song. he rips the sames licks.. in the same key.. wasnt melodic in a form to where the songs where different from each other.. no melody? all sounds the same.. I really thought that dvd would be better! and when you get to be one with your axe, can we say everything is safe? I wonder what musician can become so fluent that he can do what ever, and feel safe? that would be amazing.

I don't Jimbax, have you heard Warren in the past 15 years? The guys amazing and has a wonderful long flowing improv lines like a horn player. Ad he rarely ever plays faster than 16th notes like Pat MArtino.. Very sweet note choices and with a total blues sensibility. He sounds nothing like EVH or Lynch.
I'm I'm convinced that aside form EVH, Lynch is the most orginal style I've ever heard. He doesn't sound like anyone, but alot of people have tried to copy him, (like me).. I got this live DVD from Japan '95 with Dokken and its sick watching him just imrpov all these amazing things..

Oh yeah Hacksaw, theres one for sure. Zakk Wylde. Most overrated player ever.
That guy has the coolest attitude and outlook on guitar and music and I love his personality and approach to playing, but highly overrated. He plays stiff as a board with those pentatonic sextuplets over and over,,, boring. And if he puts one more Joe Walsh or Lynard Skynard lick in an Ozzy tune I'm going to kick his @ss.

I don't think warren sounds anything like eddie either.at least nothing he's ever recorded...but he and lynch's styles (back in the day anyway, in the 80's) are VERY similar...they have the same type of approach and tone....I think anyone not in the know would confuse them back in the day..but that's goin' back to the 80's stuff they were both doing....I still prefer lynch overall...

I haven't heard warren in MANY years...I know when he was with RATT he got no LA respect because of his EVH/Lynch rip-offs..(he was young then..) I used to jam with george face to face...I'm truly not bragging, but, back in 78-79 he knew what I knew on the guitar: pentatonic blues scale and some modes....later he fell in love with the 'lydian' mode and the rest is history...I haven't heard George in years...I'm serious...I don't idolize him...I haven't heard any of his stuff after he gave me a copy of his first Dokken album rough mixes from the board (about 5 or 6 songs...) I know Dokken's first album sucked (IMHO) and I know George didn't like it either...He and Don were always arguing over crud...I gots a few stories there...anyways...George went on and got some major tutoring on fretboard harmony etc...cool! I am sad to see him playing bars with 30 people there though....

Although I really don't have any of his influence in my playing, I love Lynch's stuff...all of it.

Although I really don't have any of his influence in my playing, I love Lynch's stuff...all of it. I thought he was cooler before he went 'metal'...he was 'homespun' style like I was...that's how we connected...he was (and is) better than I was then but then again he was about 5 years older...I know I'm not influenced by him because I don't listen to him!...some of the stuff I heard portions of from later Dokken albums sound like backing tracks to pin ball machines to me...knowing him he would probably agree...Dokken was under pressure to bring a certain 'simple' commercialized metal I know George didn't like most of it...after Dokken? I haven't heard Lynch Mob stuff...

I am sad to see him playing bars with 30 people there though.... spill the beans on the stories my lynch jammin' brother! We weren't 'best buddies' but I was around alot in those years (78-81)...he thought I was another guitar player with no game...until I busted out with 'Exciter' by Priest at one of their practices...jammed 1/2 the song with Mic the drummer...he was like: how did you play that part...and what is going on there...etc..we started talking Marshalls (50 watt fans in those days..) went to a few of their parties at George and the bass players house rented accross the street from the college in Cypress CA...met Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony there, a very drunk and puking Gene Simmons...record guys....drunk 1/2 clothed chicks...the whole deal...we went to Starwood to see UFO, chatted a bit with Randy Rhoads that night (we played a few gigs with them Quiet Riot etc...)...the only reason we (Arch Rival) didn't play with Xciter is because their bass player or whoever was there manager and they didn't want to pay other bands squat...so fahgedaboutit..) George made his own guitars then (he was pretty good even then..) I asked if he would make me one...He did! it was an orange mighty mite strat body with one DiMarzio distortion PU (george liked those then...) cost $400...he was working with some guys at mighty mite trying to get something going like Eddie and Charvel....later, at my practices then I was getting guys from 'Aria' Japanese guys in suits coming to our practices and asking about a 'Baxter' model design...their production guitars were CRAP, but their CUSTOM guitars were as nice as ANY I've seen including PRS etc...our drummer (Craig ?) was best friends with Franky Banali etc...we had label reps there (Atlantic, Columbia etc..)...anyways...when I went to pick-up my guitar from george he just got divorced or seperated or? and he's there in just his boxer shorts and we jammed for an hour or so on his practice amp...around then he told me he was quitting Xciter and joining with a guy from Airborne....label reps bla bla bla...same crud...gotta work...more later...stay tuned... (Sorry Dokken lovers but that stuff isn't what George wanted to play...) Don Dokken stories to come...
