yeah, that's basically the one channel version of the QR as I understand it...if I'm wrong someone will tell us They are all based off the same circuit as I understand - pro stock is 1 channel. Competition is 50 watter 1 channel. QR is EL34 based, PM is KT88 based. So there will be slight variances because of this...but they all start with the same killer Splawn tone. supercharged is using EL34's so that should help you out a little.

i have played the framus cobra and i did think it was cool..a little to recto sounding for me but cool non the less.i am a gain junkie!!! and you will not be disappointed in the pro mod. i am running on gear three/OD2/gain dimed with a maxon OD-808 in front as a clean boost(volume ONLY..NO ADDED GAIN!!) and it really, really rips!! if you take all the tightness of you framus's low end and add the sweet mids and highs of a hot-rod Marshall with all the saturation you'll ever need you get what is coming out of my speakers right now!! i play a few different tunings my self,i like to throw in a CD and play along so i go from sworn enemy(1/2 step),no innocent victim(full step),stuck mojo(drop c),old throwdown(drop b), full blown chaos-hatebreed (two full steps down) etc..etc..etc..and it just smiles at me and keeps on chuggin!! it never loses definition or gets muddy or floppy on the low end no matter how much i crank it!! i really wish i would have a way to record some stuff to put it up on here for guys like you and others that want to know just how much these amps really have and what they are capable of doing!!

Thanks Brian, excactly the answer I was looking for !! So you definately suggests to go for the PM and not the QR ? I´m just afraid I´ll loose the Marshall crunch with the KT88s. Or maybe not ? But also I need a supertight amp to match my Cobra. Actually I don´t like to use lots of gain on the rythm channel. I like it supertight for speedriffing. But how´s the solo boost ? Does it add abit of gain in conjunction with volume ? Btw I´m also a big fan of Ronni Le Tekros from TNT. Although he plays 80s heavyrock I like his tight and punchy guitarsound, also his machine-gunning. I´m sorta like a heavier version he he.. Thanks guys keep ´em coming

Believe me, you will not loose that Marshall crunch with the PM! It's still there in shades. The solo boost is amazing as well. I tried a few OD pedals to push the ap but I came to realize that the solo boost works better than any of them. It adds a little sparkle to the tone, its hard to explain but it sounds awesome. I wish I had a way to record as well so I can give a good clip of heavy riffage for those that ask.

Actually I talked to josh about the solo boost and he said it only adds volume nothing else.

I dont know, I play with my solo boost engaged on my Quick Rod all the time. Sure doesnt seem to be just volume to me, my tone just gets thicker and meatier, more pronounced bottom end, and also "seems" to back off of the gain just the tiniest bit, but that just may be your ears playing tricks on you. The solo boost kicks all kinds of ass.

Well try comparing it being solo boosted, and being without solo boost but with the volume knob matched to the same level.

i have tried this test a few times and to my ear the solo boost adds just volume.if you are using OD-1 you will hear a difference because of the automatic addition of OD-2 into the mix when the solo boost is on but other than that i hear no change in characteristics at all. last week i actually tried this "Pepsi-coke challenge" with my splawn and i ran both my volume and the solo boost at 9:00 and switched back and forth with no change at all.i think also that the solo boost sounds different since it is louder, and if these amps have a flaw(for those of us that do not play out in a band or have a place to really open them up on a daily basis) it is that they sound good at lower volumes but like any good tube amp sound MUCH,MUCH BETTER LOUDER!! so much so that i think it sounds crappy after i do get the chance to open it up a little and then go back to ho-hum bedroom level.

I was just trying a quad of old Sovtek 6550WDs in my QR, biased as cold as I could get those tubes to be, and I think I'll be changing the EL34s over to the big bottles. I've always heard that the big tubes were stiff compared to the EL34, but to be honest......I didn't really hear it. I thought those cheapo Sovteks had plenty of crunchiness, and just enough "flub" so the tone was not sterile at all, even with the Duncan Distortion in my Les Paul, which I personally consider to be a stiff pickup. The one thing that I noticed was, the 6550s cut through a lot better than the EL34s I had in there. I don't know if it was the slight change in tone, or if it's because the 6550s seemed to follow my playing a lot clearer, but with the Sheffield 1200 Greenback copies in my 5150 cab, it was pure goodness. I think I need to find some good 6550/KT88s to play with, along with some real Greenbacks.
