Right on cvogue! Funny you mention about emailing Splawn. I did and they got back with me in less than an hour I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as you on the 4 button foot switch - in the end, I really don't think it will be necessary with OD1/OD2 and the solo boost. I think I'd be better off putting that money towards a matching 1x12 cab Man! I've noticed that the solo boost not only raises the volume, but it also does something a little magical to the tone as well I'm really glad I pulled the trigger and got this amp and even more happy to have a brotherhood with you guys who share the same passion for music as I do. Rock on (or country, jazz, fusion, pop or blues on)!

And the whole thing about only switching back and forth between gear 2 and one of the others... not that useful I'm thinking.
I use the Blackstar 1x12 extension cab with a greenback in it with my Street Rod, sounds killer. I'd like a Splawn extension cab but they are pricey... but it would be cool to have the whole rig be Splawn. For now though, I'm good.
Edit: Hmm... maybe Santa can bring me a Splawn cab... hmm...

I have read through quite a bit of the older threads here and there is quite a bit of talk about the solo knob adding "something" to the tone. I've heard (read) that even players that don't use/need the solo function still recommending turning the knob up over the channel level for xtra magic!!

As far as the 4 button switch...my Quickrod came Standard with the 4 button. In a band situation (I'm currently band-less) I used to set the amp to 2nd gear and use the foot switch to go between 1st/2nd. But yeah, it's not too much to just research over and make a quick adjustment on the amp.

cvoguemurphshallDoes either of your street rods have the B+ switch? I'm not sure if that's even an option on the SR... I know that some of the lower wattage amps Scott offers are B+ by default.

I got my SR about 6 months ago... no B+ switch, not sure if it has B+ set up by default... not sure how I'd tell. I'm not sure how old my amp is though, I didn't order it from Scott, I got it from a local dealer. It was new when I bought it but it may have been at the dealer for a while, or not, just don't know.

I definitely agree that the solo function adds some magic mojo.. been leaving mine on all the time just for that reason. When I emailed Scott earlier, I asked him if the B+ mod was an option for the Street Rod and he replied that it was only an option for the 100 watt heads Murph

Okay.. so having the amp for a while now and practicing with the band, I can see now that that amp is not for me.
Too much gain and too much compression, no matter what gear I select. I'm more of a classic rock tone type of guy - although this amp does do the 80's hair that I wanted,in the end, I'd rather have a good classic rock tone.
Please guide me in the right direction to sell this amp.
Thanks, Murphshall

You could post it here, Craig’s list, Reverb, or eBay. Or on another forum you frequent.

I got some great Bad Company sounds out of it like that. What city are you in? Maybe I'll buy another one! J/K

Put jan philips or ge 5751 in v2 and v3. It will tame the gain and give a bit more headroom. In my street rod I use: v1-nis mullard i61 v2- ge black plate 5751, v3- nos tesla ecc83, v4- nos penta labs 12ax7a. I love the tone. Run the loop volume wide open and bring down the front panel volume to 9-10 oclock.

Hey thanks for everyone's input, but I am too much of a classic rock guy at heart. I don't want to go through changing tubes and what not, I'd rather just have an amp sound like I would like it to just plugging straight in.
I bought a Reverend Kingsnake amp today that fits that bill just fine. When I boost it with an overdrive, I have no problem getting the 80's higher gain tones I love. It's just a one channel amp, but that's where I live - an amp with one channel that let's me get all the tones I need from just my guitar volume and a good overdrive pedal.
In the end, the Splawn was just to overdriven with to much compression for my needs.
If anyone is interested, it's at Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan.
Or pm me and you can by it direct from me.
Thanks
