I've thought gear 2 was too bassy when playing at home so I avoided it with the band but today I did some gear change dancing and found that gear 2 actually adds some nice "oomph" for some songs (think ZZ Top Sharp Dressed Man kinda stuff).
Alone it is bassy to my ears but in the band mix things change of course. Could be that it's because we got a new bassist with a really nice deep sounding rig (big ass Mesa speaker cabs) so they complement gear 2 on my SR than the last bassist's rig (used a little Fender Rumble)
When do you guys use gear 2, or any gear for a certain sound?

Right now I'm loving gear 3. But I was using gear 2 for quite a while. I also notice it has a low end bump which sounds great in a band mix. I have a BB Preamp on order. Once that arrives I may go back to gear 2 and see how that works. I love the gain structure in gear 3 but I don't like that you can't change to gear 1 from gear 3...
