I have stopped clean boosting my Splawns now. I found that it was taking a bit of color out of the splawn voicing. The only reason I was using them was to tighten up the bottom end but since I got my new QR, I felt it didn't need it and i have also dialed in my 2015 QR to sound as similar as possible as the 2016 and now don't need boost for that one either. It's funny ......i swore by them before for Splawns but now don't like em lol. I find the sound much warmer without now and bottom is not super tight but creamier but crisp.

I used to swear by the EP 'clean boost' mini pedal with my 100 QR ( one of the early drop B+ heads but no mid cut switch). It's designed to mimic the boost of the original echo-plex without the time effect. I have no need for it with my purple 50 watt. In fact, I find it squishes the tone and makes the tone 'thinner' than without it. I am convinced the 'mid-cut' switch is THE answer to any feelings that the QR can be a little stiff or that the kids can get a bit fatiguing. I was constantly 'tweaking' my 100 watt, but find the 50 always sounds absolutely sensational.

EDIT: 'mids' can be a bit fatiguing, not 'kids'

OP when you say clean boost are you referring to an actual clean boost like an RC Booster or TC Electronic Spark in the loop or a Tube Screamer type pedal up front ?

I was using a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 with very little gain to add a little boost. I also used a Bad Monkey but it is not as transparent as the Fulltone.
