I tried it tonight and it sounds great. It is a little tighter sounding with more high end bite compared to my EVH with green backs. It's also higher up off the ground and at face level than the EVH so the difference is probably even less when it's at floor level. Sounds great though.

My amp sounded a little dark through the oversize recto cab, but I loved the sound. The answer was the v30 series one cab from Blackstar. Much higher quality than my Marshall AV, perfect for death/thrash. Now I just have to rig it to spray blood over the crowd...

For me, a cab/speaker that darkens my tone is what I'd be looking for..

I wonder if the seismic has more high end due to the vet30's high mid hump?

I just spent a good chunk of today emailing back and forth with Daniel from Port City. He suggested an Et-65/vet30 combo for speakers in a 2x12. I told him exactly what I was looking for in a tone. I was a little surprised at the vet30 suggestion since its WGS's take on a V30. He explained that the Vet30 actually pulls down the high mids that the V30 has. I'm willing to give them a shot. The guy obviously knows what he's doing. However I'll have to put buying that cabinet off for a little bit. With those speakers and shipping costs it's $900!!!!

They have some sweet cabs so many to choose from. I was thinking of sending my cabs in get them re-staind and the grill redone. Or mby there's a guy local who can cover them in black tolex and get me a vintage Marshall salt and pepper grill. Are you thinking if getting a matching cab? Or something standard?

He said he doesn't do any kind of center stripe thing but his standard cab is black with silver logo and piping, so color-wise it would match....I'm DEFINITELY getting a port city cab, I just need to save up a little. I don't mind putting some of the price on credit but the more cash I can save, obviously the better.

I'll bet you could re-stain your cabs yourself...just YouTube it. They would look brand new again!!

I'm so stoked for you! A Port City cab is well with the saving up, with your new speakers it's gonna sound grand! Yeah I was thinking I could actually. I wanna go for a light grey, but I did want the saltnpepper grill on professionally. Actually that's one downfall to these Emperor cabs, they stain them so after one show it looks horrible. So I think I'm going to get me a road case like this. i.imgur.com/XKgrnht.jpgThis is what both my cabs looked like new. Both are beat to hell now. So a case is always a good thing.

Dude...that cab is SWEET!! About a year ago I had a Friedman amp that he built from a Marshall Bluesbreaker. It was a one of a kind amp. It had its own road case similar to what you posted. One thing I will say....that F-er was HEAVY. I'm sure your cab is much lighter than this amp was though.

I found a Port city cab on CL last night. I'm gonna message the guy today. It's located in Texas so I dont know if he is willing to ship it. I'm on the east coast. I'll find out.

This is a great thread - I'm gonna chime in again. I just got a Tone Star Ported 2x12 very similar design to the 'Z-Best' cab. I paid the extra dough to have it loaded with the new(er) Celection 90 watt Alnico cream backs. The search is over. I could easily sell my Creamback loaded 4x12 and never miss it. The Alnico 90s 'tame' a little bit of the top end and 'warm' the mids of the QR without changing its nature. It's still all Splawn - but better. The ported Z-Best style 2x12 moves so much air, it's unbelievable. I definitely had to dial in the tone controls compared to where I had the amp running with the 4x12. I ended up dialing in more treble and presence than I could ever use with the 4x12. Oh, and the Tone Star is a 'plug-n-play' stereo design: one jack is mono 16 ohms, 2 lower jacks will separate the speakers for 8 ohm stereo use. It is a phenomenal cab.
