Evh cabs have EVH branded greenbacks 25 watt. Cabs are very expensive new though but great quality. Me and my friend got to play through a EVH 4x12 cab loaded with those EVH celestion speakers and it sounded fantastic. Very sparky and vibrant, I liked it alot. Actually now that I think about it, I think the speakers are based off Eddie's heritage speakers or something like that.

I'd pass on the Avatar cab, I just don't think they are worth it. There's so much better cabs out there. My Emperor cab will dominate any Avatar cab on the market. They gentleman that sold me my two 2X12 Emperor cabs had a really nice collection of cabs and speakers, including two different Avatar cabs. He said that the only thing compared to the Emperor was the two PortCity cabs and he explains that was only bcs of sound difference Air, Tump, Overtones, things that make a cab specific. But I specifically remember him telling me that the two Avatar cabs were a waste of money. I see them as being a cab that holds you over until you get what you really want. My suggestion is save up and get the best! Speakers are all taste but cabs always come down to quality and craftsmanship. I wouldn't think twice to buy a PortCity cab, expensive but we'll worth the money.. I tried looking up the emperor website and it under construction or something like that. It has been down for a while now. I wanted to see what they cost etc. I'd be very interested in getting one of those ....if I could find one! The EVH cab is another cab I'm interested in but since my QR is 100W the 2 30W speakers it comes with won't cut it. Unless I played in half power mode, which is an idea I've been tossing around too. I've read/heard good things about the speakers that they have, I just have concerns about their power capabilities. I'm a little surprised that you don't like the Avatar cabs...I've only heard good things about them. I have no hands on experience so I really only know what I've read on the Internet. Port city cabs are amazing but yeah, pricy as hell. $645 unloaded for the OS. Woah...

I spent my 'formative' years playing almost exclusively thru a Mesa Mark III Simul Class. VERY compressed, 'squishy' tone. I did a ton of trial and error swapping different combinations of tubes in the power section to get the low-end tight and 'thumpy.' I got to the point were I could get a really consistent John Sykes 'Serpens Albus' tone with my rig. Then I discovered Splawn. I played thru a friends rig at a club and was just blown away: SO articulate and the low end was so much more 'spacious' than my thumpy Mark III which sort of sounded like a kick drum by comparison. I was hooked. I've got a Drop B+ QR and a new FUlly Loaded 50 Watt on order. Definite learning curve to these amps! I just forced myself to play all of my alternate picking and legato exercises every day with a metronome on 1st Gear ONLY. It was humbling. Now I just love the clarity. When I step up to 2nd Gear, the amp just sings and leads feel effortless. Just took a lil' time is all.

It was so hard for me at first, I thought I made the wrong decision and should have went with a VHT. After a year I was locked in with the right hand and hooked with the left, pure hands on. That's awesome you made the switch, welcome to the family brother!

Personally, I wouldn't say Avatar cabs are a waste of money. You get what you pay for. I think I got mine fully loaded new with my options on tolex etc for $425. It shipped with a G12H30 and a Classic Lead 80 - which I specified. Closed back. Not easy to remove - but once done I was pretty impressed with the craftsmanship for $425. It sounded great too. Dave, the owner, is great to work with. His rebranded Hellatone speakers are a tremendously good value too and pre-broken in. I would say it is true that they are a good carry over cab until you settle in on a higher quality cab that will fit your rig/tone and tour schedule better. It is also true that Emperor, Port City, Splawn, EVH, and even Mesa and Orange (along with some others) are of higher quality than Avatar. Here is my old Avatar that I sold to a friend to help fund the Splawn cab. Ive had the same problem and the first year was so hard. Once I played it for a wile I didn't even notice but it's totally melted with my playing. Overdrive helps and delay too. But all and all you just have to play it and get used to it. Once I adapted to my splawn all other amps are so easy to play, but you can totally tell they suck in comparison! Good luck friend. Lol +1 PS: When I want more of a squishier, compressed tone for my down tuned chugga chugga stuff I simply run the QR and the Rectoverb together. Boom. It is actually pretty overpowering. Unreal.

Oh yeah. For sure.
I sold the Avatar cab to help fund the Splawn cab. Splawn cab is better without a doubt.

I'll just swap the speakers in my Marshall for now and once I'm ready to buy I'll spring for what I really want. It's not like the Marshall is a sh!tty cab...just sh!tty speakers!!

The Marshall should hold you over, I thinks it should be fine! It's alot easier to pull the trigger on something cheaper but alot harder to sell it for what you paid for it. Plus it would be awesome if you got a Splawn cab matching your head. And to add, if you got a great cab it would be alot easier to make up your mind about what you would need and direction you want to go with you gear/sound. I think in the long run you would be much happier with the results

Just putting this out there...what configuration of cab do you prefer....and why? Horizontal or vertical?
I've never played a vertical. I can see that it might give a better sound dispersal and point one speaker toward your head. But I have this fear of the amp falling off of it or the whole rig toppling over!!!

Gotta look cool lol!
I just picked up a Seismic 2 x 12 cab today and it has a governor and veteran 30 in it. I traded a guitar for it and $500. I just got home and put it on top of my EVH 4 X 12 cab and will try it out later tonight. I am pooped after 6 hour drive home. Was visiting friends over long weekend. This Seismic is very solid and seems good quality. I heard they are priced very low! Will let you know how it sounds later.
