I was checking the description for the pro mod and as i have put it on the radar for my next amp...it listed the tonal properties to have less mids and even a bit of a scooped sound compared to the QR. Is the mid sweep still wide enough and responsive enough to sound like an old school marshall? or does it sound like a crappy, scooped, tinny solid state amp? Does anyone have any good sound clips of the pro mod?

+1 The Pro Mod definitely does not have scooped mids like a soild state ot metal amp. It still has the Marshall grind with plenty of mids just not as aggresive as the QR. I have some live clips in the clip section when I opened for Robin Trower. Its just a camera mic but you might get the idea.

The pro mod is just more "up front in your face" to my ears hence the reason for snagging one a few months ago. I love it.

That's strange because after hearing the QR I think it's the other way around. To me the aggressive mid bark of the QR seems more "in your face" and the Pro Mod seems more "kick you in the beanbag" with it's low end.

I currently own a QuickRod with a 4x12 straight cab with SB25's. I have another identical cabinet and am going to pair that up with a ProMod head. I will have a QR and PM together in stereo. Scott is building my head now and hope to have by the end of summer. Cannot wait. The ultimate tone will finally be in my possession. I am loving the QR big time and with the variance in tone from the PM...well, together, it should be the ultimate.

I have a PM and at one point owned a QR, and A-B'd these amps. Both were late model amps, less than a year old, and with low hours so I'd say it was a good comparison.
First of all, the difference between these amps isn't huge -- we're talking about shades of gray. I found the PM to be slightly brighter and tighter by comparison -- it seemed to have a little more clarity too. The QR was a little looser and slightly darker. Tonally, they could be dailed in to achieve a lot of common ground. The difference seemed fairly typical of EL vs KT based tube amps (which is exactly what we're talking about in these two models).
In the end, I preferred the PM so I sold the QR.

I also like the pm better than the qr.

I had a PM and let me tell you it was the most outstanding amp I have ever owned especially at bedroom volumes, it sounded so good even at br volumes and I never dialed my drive up past 2 oclock with master at 2 maybe.....no pedals...

Excellent comparison. I agree with you . Dead on assessment of the two.

Wow. I owned a 2007 QR for two years but these Pro Mod clips have me thinking. If those clips by Scott are a good representation, I think the PM addresses some of what I was looking for in the QR. It's not a totally scooped sound, but the mids are more where I like to hear. That low mean growl in the midrange ... not a completely different amp, just a tweak to the voicing.
